Community Development

Helping communities and neighbourhoods support family and child development is a key part of the UEY project. One of the goals is to help communities use the research results to develop action plans. These action plans must follow some guiding principles:

  • prevention and early intervention focus
  • child-focused and family-centred
  • neighbourhood-based and community-driven
  • grass roots participation
  • universal access
  • reflects and respects diversity/equity
  • capacity-building, asset-based approach
  • inclusive
  • encourages collaboration and partnerships

Knowledge Action Plan

The report outlines the strategies for sharing the results of the UEY research through a participatory process that involves the communication and integration of the UEY research findings for action within the community. The knowledge transfer process to the community is intended to foster better developmental outcomes for children.

The UEY project was developed with funding from the Government of Canada under the Understanding the Early Years Initiative and is managed by Success By 6.
